Rafting
The best in the Midwest! Great Wisconsin whitewater rafting. Try Wildman Ranch at 715/757-2938. Surprisingly affordable safe and FUN! The people couldn’t be nicer. Really wild and challenging in April, May and sometimes June, with milder family-fun in July, August and September. It’s a 30-minute drive. Turn right onto Parkway and follow it to the end, turning left onto County Road C/F. You’ll see signs indicating a right turn.
Good alternatives: Thorton’s at 715/757-3311 and Kosir’s at 715/757-3431. You’ll pass both on the way to Wildman’s. Rates run around $25-$30/person – with longer trips and spring trips around $50.

Diamond Lake Campground & Trout Farm
A fun, family fishing destination. In addition to a sandy swimming beach and a large playground, visitors can angle for trout in this spring fed, fully stocked man-made lake. You pay only for the fish you catch. Due to the frailty of trout, catch and release is not permitted. They have a couple of poles for rent ($1/day), sell bait, ice cream, soda and other snacks. Licenses are not required to fish here. Take County Road W across Rt. 141, heading east, to County Road G and make a left onto Loomis Road. Follow Loomis for several winding miles – they’re at the end of Loomis, on the right. For a small fee, they may clean the fish for you!

The Peshtigo Fire Museum
The Peshtigo Fire Museum is a reminder of how Peshtigo rose from the ashes of one of the most tragic fires in American history. The museum is housed in the first church rebuilt in Peshtigo following the fiery holocaust of Oct. 8, 1871. A drought that summer turned the woods into a tinderbox by autumn. Inside the museum, artifacts recreate the events leading up to the fire that cut a vicious swath through much of northeastern Wisconsin. More than 800 people died. Survivors carried physical and emotional scars for the remainder of their lives.
Open: Memorial Day through Oct. 8, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., daily. Free admission; donations accepted. See the Peshtigo section under "Explore Our Cities" for more information and history.
